STUDENTS at Melbourne’s Jewish schools have again finished in the top one per cent of the state, according to VCE results released this week.
At least two pupils at each Jewish school received marks over 99, with one or more students at all schools attaining perfect study scores.
While two Bialik College students and one Leibler Yavneh College student gained the highest ENTER scores among pupils at Jewish schools (99.9), Mount Scopus Memorial College led the charge, with 17 per cent of the 128 graduating students receiving marks above 99.

STUDENTS at Melbourne’s Jewish schools have again finished in the top one per cent of the state, according to VCE results released this week.
At least two pupils at each Jewish school received marks over 99, with one or more students at all schools attaining perfect study scores.
Two Bialik College students, Ian Metz and Benjamin Poyer, gained the highest ENTER scores among pupils at Jewish schools of 99.9, along with Leibler Yavneh College’s Tal Ellinson (99.9).
At Bialik College, 11 students scored in the top percentile of the state, with a further 37 receiving marks above 95, and almost 64 per cent attaining scores above 90.
At Mount Scopus Memorial College, three students shared top honours — Karen Freilich, Joshua Ludski and Michael Thurin scored 99.85.

ART, visual communication and design are increasingly becoming available at Jewish schools, as demand increases each year.
At The King David School, six year 12 students are currently completing the final units of art, and seven are undertaking visual communication.
Senior school visual art coordinator Maya Huxley said that today, visual art is about more than just creating an attractive image.
“It is about providing students with the visual literacy skills essential for success in the image-driven world in which they live. [Our] program places a strong emphasis on conceptual development and the integration of technology into the students’ work. This is reflected in both the ideas that underpin, and the physical manifestation of, their creative work.”
Five students at Beth Rivkah Ladies College are undertaking art this year and, while the subject is offered at a VCE level at brother school Yeshivah College, there were no takers there this year. Read the full story

THE highest achieving Victorian Curriculum of Education (VCE) students of 2008 were recognised with Premiers awards in a ceremony at the New Melbourne Convention Centre this week.
Among the top achievers were more than 10 Jewish students from Melbourne’s Jewish and non-Jewish schools. They received their awards from Victorian Premier John Brumby at the ceremony on Tuesday, July 21.
The Jewish schools were once again successful with Mount Scopus Memorial College leading the charge with five students — Gabrielle Debinski (English), Nadav Harel (religion and society), Daniel Nash (religion and society), Jake Newstadt (religion and society) and David Spicer (accounting).
