JERUSALEM - A ceremony was held this week in Jerusalem, dedicating a new monument in memory of the victims of the September 11 attack on the United States.
The monument, which was designed by artist Eliezer Weishoff at an estimated cost of around AUD $3 million is nine metres high. This is one of the only monuments outside of the US that features the names of all the 2,980 victims of the attacks as well as their home countries. Five Israelis are among the dead.

MORE than 200 people gathered at the University of NSW to mark the 14th anniversary of the assassination of former Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin
Hosted by the State Zionist Council of NSW and Encounters@Shalom, the service included the recitation of poetry, a candle memorial and a musical performance by Ben Goldstein of the Emanuel School.
In 1995, an Orthodox Jew gunned down Rabin at a peace rally because he opposed Rabin’s policy of trading land for peace with the Palestinians.

AROUND 800 fans packed into the South Sydney Junior Rugby League Club today to take part in a public memorial for entertainer Don Lane who died last month of a dementia-related illness, aged 75.
On stage at the League Club, linked to Lane’s beloved Rabbitohs, the star-studded tribute was led by his son PJ, and featured reminiscences from Lane’s A-list friends, including Bert Newton, Rhonda Burchmore, Helen Reddy, Toni Lamond, Tony Pantano and Mike McColl Jones.
Fans had begun gathering at the venue from 6.45am and were admitted free, but were asked to make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association of NSW.
Lane’s former wife Jayne Ambrose thanked his supporters for attending and distributed copies of his autobiography.
