TEL AVIV -– Israel Defence Forces Chief of the General Staff Lt.-General Gabi Ashkenazi addressed members of the General Staff on Memorial Day for former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who was assassinated 14 years ago.
Speaking at the Yitzhak Rabin Centre, Lt.-General Ashkenazi said: “The times and external threats have changed, but even today in our society are those who try to take the law into their own hands and seek to change the reality with incitement.
“We must remember that our commitment is to pull out those weeds, before they grow more evil.”
This is the fifth year in which the General Staff Forum marked the Memorial Day for Yitzhak Rabin.
Rabin has a special place in the hearts of the IDF as he was Chief of the General Staff in 1964 and 20 years later served as Minister of Defence.
