A DEVASTATING batting display from Israel has relegated Australia into fourth place in the open cricket competition at the Maccabiah Games after scoring a 50-run victory.

Batting first, Israel attacked a wayward Aussie bowling attack to compile a mammoth total of 9/243. Spinner Dave Majtlis was the best of the Aussie bowlers with 3/46, Adam Zemski took two wickets while Dean Beissel, Brett Joffe and Dylan Weiner each claimed one wicket.

The bowling attack failed to take wickets in quick succession or stem the fast paced scoring from the home nation, meaning the target would always be a difficult one for the batsmen to reach.

Flamboyant opener Brad Majtlis gave the Aussies a glimmer of hope with another swashbuckling innings.

He smacked the opening bowler from Israel for 16 in his first over on his way to a brilliant knock of 44, but when he was dismissed no-one else was able to stay at the wicket long enough for Australia to get close enough to the Israeli total.
