AJAX bounced back to thrash Monash Blues by 72 points at the weekend, winning 20.19 (139) to 10.7 (67) to move to third place on the ladder. The first quarter was a one-sided affair with AJAX kicking six unanswered goals for the term.Â
David Fayman and Jason Israelsohn were the standouts, with Fayman kicking three goals for the term, and Israelsohn applying defensive pressure all over the ground. The Jackas were 36 points in front at quarter time. AJAX turned defensive in the second quarter, allowing Monash to get back in the game.Â
Fayman, however, was still on fire, and joined Gary Blieden and Ari Lewski in scoring goals during the term. At half time Monash had reduced the deficit to 21 points. In the third quarter most Jackas players stepped up their intensity. Multiple goal kickers for the term included Josh Sacks, Geoffrey Measey, Sam Chester, Blieden, Fayman and Ben Kalmus. Sacks had a major impact on the game through his unquestionable hardness at the ball and by kicking three goals for the day. Jeremy Dukes though, was the clear hero of the quarter, showing that he is equally capable in the midfield, backline and the forward line.Â
The Jackas started the fourth quarter 54 points in front. Fayman kicked another three goals for the term, finishing with eight goals for the game. The reserves won their first game of the season, beating the Monash Blues 10.10 (70) to 5.5 (35). The Under 19s had their toughest battle this season but were too strong for Bentleigh winning 11.13 (79) to 7.10 (52).
